New Wheels Amidst Sludge

Well hello.

I haven't posted in a while. It has been one of those days/weeks/months. In addition to the normal Christmas hoopla, I have been swamped with work. Unfun work. Sludge. Thus, to add more writing on top of tons and tons of writing and research...just hasn't been appealing.

I'm re-entering blog land with a cool link-up called Money Shot Monday hosted by Flower Patch Farmgirl (one of my new faves!). Normally I am not so great at this link-up thing because I am slightly lazy and self-centered and not that motivated in being blogtastic...but this one is really cool. Basically, take a moment out of your mundane and/or hectic life and capture a moment of beauty.

This is perfect for me. Right. Now.

We bought a new minivan last week. New as in new to us. I've finally entered that stage of life. All I need to do now is sign my kids up for soccer.

I don't know why minivans get such a bad rap. I think they're amazing. They encapsulate practicality. Some people prefer an SUV, but unless you're hauling a lot of stuff or going off-road, you're really just avoiding the reality of you soccer mom identity (we're in suburban Illinois, people, and not on a farm).

I am so grateful we found this car. It was right in our price range. We don't have to go into debt to pay for it, once we sell our other car!!! It's the make and model we wanted (Honda Odyssey). It's high in mileage but has been maintained very well. My kids love climbing around in it, and getting them in and out is a breeze. It's roomy. One huge thing out of the way before the baby comes.

We don't NEED a car. I know a single mom who was getting around for a couple of months with her FOUR kids by bus and foot. She never complained. Not once.

So I'm not taking this vehicle for granted More importantly, I'm grateful that I have little people to fill up my minivan, especially in the wake of last week's tragedy.

I may feel like I'm deep in sludge sometimes, but all in all, it has been a great day.
